چکیده

Using Laskar’s frequency map analysis, we investigate the long-term stability of Venus Trojan orbits. By measuring the diffusion rate of proper frequencies, we outline in phase space the most stable region. It is located between 5 and 10 in proper inclination with libration amplitudes ranging from 50 to 110 . The proper eccentricity is lower than 0.13. The stable region is surrounded by secular resonances that destabilize orbits on short timescales. The dynamical half-life of orbits within the stable region is about 6 ; 10 yr. The Yarkovsky effect further reduces the dynamical lifetime. Therefore, primordial Venus Trojans, if any, cannot have survived until the present. Transient Trojans, on the other hand, cannot be excluded.

Asteroids in the Inner Solar System I – Existence

Ensembles of in-plane and inclined orbits in the vicinity of the Lagrange points of the terrestrial planets are integrated for up to 100 million years. The integrations incorporate the gravitational effects of Sun and the eight planets (Pluto is neglected). Mercury is the least likely planet, as it is unable to retain tadpole orbits over 100 million year timescales. Mercurian Trojans probably d...

Dynamics of Jupiter Trojans during the 2:1 mean motion resonance crossing of Jupiter and Saturn

In the early phase of the Solar System evolution, while the outer planets migrated due to their interaction with a planetesimal disk, Jupiter may have crossed the 2:1 mean motion resonance with Saturn. It is well known (Morbidelli et al. 2005) that this dynamical event has profound consequences on the evolution of an alleged initial Trojan population of Jupiter. In this paper, we analyse in det...

The growth of Jupiter and Saturn and the capture of Trojans

We have studied the capture of planetesimals in Trojan-type orbits by a growing proto-planet. The change of the gravity field due to the mass growth causes a significant fraction of planetesimals orbiting nearby to be trapped as Trojans of the proto-planet. After a planetesimal is captured on a Trojan-type orbit, the libration amplitude of its critical argument is consistently reduced by the fu...

Dynamical Effects of Planetary Migration on Primordial Trojan-type Asteroids

The hypothesis of planetary migration is tested by numerically integrating orbits of Trojan-type asteroids in the gravitational Ðeld of the Sun, the migrating parent planet, and at least one extra migrating planet. A linear model and an exponential model for migration are used. Migration speeds are deÐned by several total migration times for the linear model and by two di†erent timescales for t...

SATURN TROJANS: STABILITY REGIONS IN THE PHASE SPACE F. Marzari and P. Tricarico

We use the frequency map analysis method to identify for Trojan orbits of Saturn the regions in the proper orbital element phase space characterized by higher stability. We find that Trojan orbits with proper eccentricity around 0.05, libration amplitude of about 80 , and inclination lower than 15 show a slow diffusion in the proper frequency of the longitude of perihelion ~ !, which indicates ...
